Senate Republicans Just Gave Trump a Blank Check on Venezuela?! Are We Living in a Simulation?!

Okay, buckle up! It's January 2026, and the U.S. Senate just did WHAT? They blocked a resolution demanding President Trump get Congressional approval for military action in Venezuela! Remember that surprise capture of Nicolás Maduro? Congress just effectively said, "Go wild, Mr. President!" Are we even surprised anymore?!

Wait, HOW Did This Happen?

Last week, five Republicans actually rebelled and joined Democrats on a procedural vote. Trump was furious, naturally. But then, Majority Leader Thune worked some magic. Two of those five, Josh Hawley and Todd Young, flipped their votes! Senator Hawley's "concerns" were "alleviated" by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Senator Young got "assurances" that "no American troops are in Venezuela" and that the Administration would "ask" if "major" operations were needed. Seriously, "assurances" after a surprise raid?!

• A rare bipartisan stand against the President evaporated. Just poof!
• "Assurances" from the White House? After a president was captured without prior Congressional say? Please.
• The promise to ask Congress for "major" operations implies "minor" or "surprise" ones are still fair game.
• The final vote was 51-50, with Vice President Vance breaking the tie. One vote made the difference! What even is this reality?!

Democrats will keep pushing for war powers votes, no doubt. Expect more political theater. Will other Republicans dare to challenge the President again? Or will the pressure be too much?
